5 Things You Need To Know About Lodi Point State Marine Park

Did you know that there’s a great little spot to visit on Seneca Lake with a boat launch and picnic area? In this video, I’m going to share five things you need to know about Lodi Point State Marine Park here on Seneca Lake. We’ll look at everything from the location to amenities so you know exactly what to expect.

Lodi Point’s Location

The first thing you need to know about Lodi Point State Marine Park is the location. It’s located in a unique place on the east side of Seneca Lake, right on a point that juts out. Directly across the lake is Miles Wine Cellars, which you can almost see from the shore.

A neat feature of this area is that if you’re standing with your back to the lake, you can look farther away down to your left and see up the lake. If you look down to your right, you can see all the way pretty much to Watkins Glen. This is also where the lake takes a little bit of a crook, and it’s about halfway up on the east side of Seneca Lake.

Park And Swim

The second thing you need to know is that Lodi Point is pretty much a day park. You drive in for the day and it closes at sundown, so you can’t stay overnight. It also says clearly that pets must be on a leash.

A nearby sign used to say “Swimming Prohibited,” though I’ve been here and people do go swimming. Now, it looks like they painted that part of the sign out. If you do go swimming, make sure it’s not until June, July, or August—when the lake starts to heat up. You also may want to get some of those cheap swim shoes as the shore can be kind of rocky.

Playgrounds And Facilities

Another cool thing you’ll find at this park is that there are two great modern playgrounds. Kids of all ages have a lot of fun on these playgrounds, which feature woodchips and great equipment. It’s actually a pretty nice park.

The fourth thing you need to know about is the facilities. There is a building that has showers and a flushing toilet that’s heated, and there are also some pavilions and picnic tables available. For the most part, this is a really simple little park where people come for the day, lay out on blankets or relax in lawn chairs, bring their Frisbees, and enjoy a barbecue grill.

It’s pretty low-key and is not crowded at all—even in the height of summer. So be sure to bring your charcoal!

The Boat Slip

The fifth thing you need to know about Lodi Point is that there’s a cute little boat slip that’s been there for a long time. It’s somewhat sheltered from the elements with one stone wall.  There are about 10 or 12 boat slips there, and the fee for the summer ranges from about $650 to $1,000. Be aware that there is a waiting list if you want to keep your boat here.

Another popular feature about this park is there are two free boat launches. You back your boat down into the lake and then park in one of the plentiful spaces. You can then go and enjoy trolling around the center of Seneca.
